The Heavens Declare the Glory of God

Psalm 19 opens with these powerful words:

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth his handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.”
— Psalm 19:1–3

This passage is a beautiful reminder that God’s glory is constantly on display — in every sunrise, every starry night, every mountain peak, and every stretch of ocean. His creation speaks, even without words, to every corner of the earth.

As I went on a walk today, I found myself reflecting on this verse and its significance. We live in a fallen and broken world, full of pain, aging, and struggle. And yet — it still declares the glory of God. How incredible is that?

Even in a world marred by sin, it is still His world. He is still over it. He is still in control. When we suffer physically, emotionally, or spiritually, it’s so important to remember: God is still on the throne. He knows our every need, and creation continues to testify to His goodness and glory.

Living in the Midst of His Handiwork

My family and I live in North Carolina, and we’re truly blessed to experience the best of both worlds — the beach on one end, the mountains on the other, and the foothills right in between. We often walk in local parks and nature trails just 10–20 minutes from our home. And every time we do, we are reminded of God’s artistry.

Think about it — if this is the broken version of the world, imagine the perfect version we’ll experience in Heaven. Even now, there’s so much intelligence, design, and beauty in nature: in the trees, the soil, the ecosystems, the animals. Everything testifies to the Creator’s brilliance and care.

When you see a sunset so vibrant you don’t need a filter, it’s not just a pretty picture — it’s a glimpse of God’s creativity. One of our favorite places is Cherry Grove in South Carolina, near Little River. There’s a spot called Hog’s Inlet — a peaceful place where a channel meets the ocean, great for kayaking or fishing (though we haven’t caught anything yet!).

But if you make it out to Hogs Inlet around sunset, the sky comes alive with purple, orange, pink, gold, and blue. It’s breathtaking. You feel like you’re on another planet. The reflection on the water, the peace, the colors — it’s just amazing. And in that moment, you can’t help but say: God made that.

Testifying to His Glory

It’s tempting in today’s world to attribute all this to “Mother Nature” or science alone. “Oh, the particles in the air did that,” people say. But let’s be clear — God did it. He created this. And creation testifies to His power and presence.

The other day, as we were driving home on a quiet country road, we saw the most vivid rainbow we’d ever seen. It stretched fully across the sky, and we could see both ends of it. We pulled over to take it in.

In Genesis, God placed the rainbow in the sky as a promise — a covenant — that He would never flood the earth again. It’s both practical and poetic. After a heavy storm, when the sky feels threatening, the rainbow reminds us of His promises, His mercy, and His faithfulness.

It’s not just a natural occurrence — it’s a piece of divine artistry that speaks of hope, beauty, and the steadfast love of God.

Seeking God in a Noisy World

These days, so many people are asking, Is God real? Can His Word be trusted? Does He still care?

If you’re struggling with those questions, one of the best places to start is getting outside. Leave the screens, the noise, the distractions — and just go for a walk. Take in what God has made. That’s what I’ve been trying to do more often. It’s too easy to live behind a screen, to only interact with the world through filters, likes, and algorithms.

But when we step outside into His world — His unfiltered world — we’re reminded of what’s real. Nature isn’t man-made. It’s not curated. It’s not edited. It’s authentic. And it points us straight to the Creator.

From North Carolina to Everywhere

Of course, you don’t have to be in North Carolina to see God’s glory. Whether you’re in the Midwest with its serene lakes and rolling hills, the forests of Minnesota, or the deserts of Arizona — His beauty is everywhere. Even in the cold snows of winter or the golden hues of fall, every season reflects His character.

When we begin to view nature through the lens of God’s creation, everything changes. It becomes not just beautiful, but meaningful. It becomes a daily reminder of His power, His presence, and His promises.

A Final Thought

As I walked through the park today, I thought about how blessed we are just to have another day. Life is unpredictable. Tomorrow is never promised. And there’s a lot of stress and noise out there — from media, from culture, from all sides.

But when you look up at the sky — the firmament — you’re reminded that God is above it all. He’s above the stress. He’s above the confusion. He is eternal. His glory will never fade. His promises remain.

So let’s take time to pause. To praise. To reflect. To walk in His creation and be reminded of who He is and what He’s done.

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.”
— Psalm 19:14

Amen.

Take care, God bless — and don’t forget to look up.
