Exodus Plagues -Part 2- Exodus 7

-Transcript-

00:36 Amen, welcome back to the cafe. Today we are in a second part here of the Exodus 10 plagues. We’re reading Exodus 7 – 12 and we’re gonna dive right in here and Exodus 9 picking up right in the middle of when God is sending plagues to Pharaoh and urging him to let his people go and Pharaoh refuses.

00:59 Exodus 9, And the Lord shall sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt, and there shall be nothing die of all that is the children’s of Israel. And the Lord appointed a set time, saying, Tomorrow the Lord shall do this thing in the land. And the Lord did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died, but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.

01:37 And Pharaoh sent, and behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go. And the Lord said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh.

02:06 And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast throughout all the land of Egypt. And they took ashes of the furnace and stood before Pharaoh, and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven, and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast. And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boil was upon the magicians and upon all the Egyptians.

02:31 And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them as the Lord had spoken unto Moses. And the Lord said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me. For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.

03:02 For now I will stretch out my hand, that I might smite thee and thy people with pestilence, and thou shalt be cut off from the earth. And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to show in thee my power, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. As yet exaltest thou thyself against my people, that thou will not let them go? Behold, tomorrow, about this time, I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof, even until now.

03:35 Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the field. For upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die. He that feared the word of the Lord among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses.

03:57 And he that regarded not the word of the Lord left his servants and his cattle in the field. And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man and upon beast, upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt. And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground, and the Lord rained hail upon the land of Egypt.

04:27 So there was hail and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt, since it became a nation. And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt, all that was in the field, both man and beast, and the hail smote every herb of the field, and break every tree of the field, and only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail. And Pharaoh sent and called from Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time, the Lord is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.

05:02 Entreat the Lord, for it is enough, that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail, and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer. And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the Lord, and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail, that thou mayest know how the earth is the Lord’s. But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye will not fear the Lord God.

05:29 And the flax and the barley was smitten, for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was bold. But the wheat and the rye were not smitten, for they were not grown up. And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unto the Lord.

05:42 And the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth. And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, neither would he let the children of Israel go, as the Lord had spoken by Moses.

06:04 Exodus chapter 10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I might show these my signs before him. And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son’s son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them, that ye may know how that I am the Lord. And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me.

06:40 Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring the locusts into thy coast. And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth. And they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field.

07:02 And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians, which neither thy fathers, nor thy father’s fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh. And Pharaoh’s servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? Let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God.

07:27 Knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed? And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh. And he said unto them, Go, serve the Lord your God. But who are they that shall go? And Moses said, We will go with our young, and with our old, with our sons, and with our daughters, with our flocks, and with our herds, we will go.

07:47 For we must hold a feast unto the Lord. And he said unto them, Let the Lord be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones Look to it, for evil is before you. Not so.

08:02 Go now, ye that are men, and serve the Lord, for that ye did desire, and they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence. And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt, for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left. And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt.

08:28 And the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night. And when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt.

08:39 Very grievous were they, before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such. For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened, and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees, which the hail had left. And there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

08:58 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste. And he said, I have sinned against the Lord your God, and against you. Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin, only this once, and entreat the Lord your God, that he may take away from me this death only.

09:17 And he went out from Pharaoh, and entreated the Lord. And the Lord turned a mighty strong wind, which took away locusts, and cast them into a red sea. And there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt.

09:29 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go. And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt. And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven, and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days.

09:50 And they saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days. But all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings. And Pharaoh called unto Moses and said, Go ye, serve the Lord.

10:02 Only let your flocks and your herds be stayed. Let your little ones also go with you. And Moses said, Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the Lord our God.

10:13 Our cattle also shall go with us. There shall be not a hoof be left behind, for thereof must we take to serve the Lord our God. And we know not with what we must serve the Lord until we come tither.

10:24 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let them go. And Pharaoh said unto him, Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more. For in that day thou seest my face, thou shalt die.

10:36 And Moses said, Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again no more.Amen. Well, that was Exodus chapter nine and chapter 10.

10:47 I wish I had more time, but for the sake of time, I had to stop there. But hey, these plagues keep coming. And the Lord is mighty and He’s strong.

10:56 And there’s so much in there that we could look at to preach on, to discuss, to think about. How about the idea that God told Pharaoh plainly through Moses, that God raised Pharaoh up so that God could show his strength against him. Isn’t that awesome to think about? That God actually put Pharaoh in that position, hard-hearted as he is, to demonstrate His power and His significant power and His delivering power.

11:23 And we see that God is sovereign in all things and that everything in life that happens, God has allowed it. Amen. And I say that because the devil’s loosed for a season.

11:33 We’re living in this sinful earth. Sin is abomination to God. God hates sin.

11:40 Amen. And so the sin that happens in this world, it’s not God causing that to happen, but he’s allowed it to happen. Just like he allowed Pharaoh to be wicked, to have that hard heart, to resist and to put the Israelites in great bondage.

11:51 Previously to this chapter in Exodus, you read about how Pharaoh was so disgusted by the Israelites wanting to go worship their God, that he made their work harder by not allowing them to have the straw they needed to make the bricks that they needed to make and still demanding the same production. He was a taskmaster. He was trying to put them to work and enslave them, but God allowed this for a reason.

12:13 And then you want to go back further. The Israelites were in bondage in Egypt to picture their unbelief. As we see in the Exodus story, after they cross the Red Sea on dry land, Amen, and after they’re wandering in the wilderness, they don’t believe in the true and living God, the one that they actually can see by a cloud by day and a fire by night, the one that’s feeding them manna from heaven.

12:39 Amen. They don’t trust that God. And so we see this story of deliverance from bondage as God has delivered us, those that are to be saved from bondage of sin, but yet many are still not trusting that God.

12:52 Amen. No matter what miracles they’re seeing, the Israelites could see God working miracles literally every day as he fed them, as their shoes didn’t wear out. Amen.

13:00 How many believers here today can give a testimony to an unbeliever that’s miraculous and that they still don’t believe. I remember I talked to an unbeliever about a person that got saved in rehabilitation and overcame a nasty addiction against all odds, against all odds. And it had to have been of Christ.

13:19 It had to have been of God that delivered this young man from this addiction. And they just looked at me plainly like, okay, I don’t believe that. And there’s so many other ways that we could talk about how God is mighty and how many still don’t believe.

13:31 And we see that picture here with the Israelites. But while they’re in bondage under the Egyptians, we see a hard heart and we see the repercussions of sin and we see the wages of sin is death. And we see that God is telling us through His word, through the whole Bible, that we must trust in Jesus with our whole hearts.

13:49 And by trusting in Jesus and making him savior and Lord, we must live for him and with him and like him and mirror that conduct of grace and humility and love and departing from the sinful thing, from the unclean thing. Thank you so much for listening here today. Take care.

14:05 God bless and Amen.
